Fugitive Acquires 40 Episodes, Plus Format, Of Mom Vs Matchmaker

26th March 2019: In addition to its content development, financing and executive producing activities, Fugitive is to distribute selected finished content from its partners and can now announce its first major acquisition – 40 x 30’ episodes of Mom vs Matchmaker. This entertaining and long-running competitive dating series is produced by Go Button Media for Canada’s OUTtv.

Fugitive is also pre-selling an additional 10 episodes for the show’s fifth season and will be representing the format internationally.

    Mom vs Matchmaker

Mom vs Matchmaker sees celebrity matchmaker Carmelia Ray face off against a fierce and fiery mom in each episode, in a bid to see who can find the best date for the mom’s son or daughter. Highly competitive, the cupids make their choices from a pool of contenders and then put their candidates through a ‘woo camp’, training them on all the essentials to help romance to blossom – everything from wardrobe, to physical contact, culture and manners. The offspring then takes the matchmaker’s and their mom’s contenders on sizzling dates and reveals at the end which one most got sparks flying.

Fugitive’s Merrily Ross comments: “With big characters and hilarious moments in the woo camps, plus a mix of unlikely matches and fledgling romances, Mom vs Matchmaker is a highly entertaining and standout dating show for a broad audience – and makes a great co-viewing programme for parents with older children. We are delighted to be working with the talented team at Go Button Media and look forward to representing not only the existing four seasons of this show, but also the format, which can be readily adapted for broadcasters worldwide.”

Natasha Ryan, Executive Producer and the show’s creator from Go Button Media adds: “Fugitive’s enthusiasm for Mom vs Matchmaker made them a natural partner for our show. Merrily and her partner Anthony Kimble are not only adept salespeople with significant contacts internationally, they also have extensive experience with formats and a clear understanding of how to develop and grow programme brands.”

Small companies, big ideas: Toronto’s Go Button Media on the benefits of “boutique”

There’s no question that the television industry is competitive, and it can be hard for a small prodco to break through the noise and find its niche. In ‘Small Companies, Big Ideas’ Realscreen chats with indies that are innovating and thriving, showing the unscripted world that sometimes the best things come in small packages

Below, Realscreen hears from Daniel Oron and Natasha Ryan, founders and executive producers of Toronto-headquartered Go Button Media.

Founded in 2015, the company has earned a reputation for turning “creative chaos into polished productions.” Its projects — spanning factual, lifestyle and branded content — have included Secret Nazi Bases for UKTV and Discovery, Sense Appeal and Mom vs Matchmaker for OUTtv, No Roses on a Sailor’s Grave and A World Without NASA for CuriosityStream and Documentary Channel, to name a few.

Here, Oron and Ryan discuss the advantages (and challenges) of running a boutique production house.

  • Think you know NASA? Think again.

A World Without NASA premiers January 9

Go Button Media’s (2 x 50’) A World Without NASA invites you to imagine what life on earth might look like if NASA never was. The two-part special, premiering on CuriosityStream January 9th 2020, explores what would happen if the everyday space technology we take for granted simply didn’t exist?

From online dating to the smart watch, from GPS to groceries, from fire safety to tracking endangered species . . . follow along with a star-studded cast of astronauts, engineers, and other out of this world experts to discover the inexorable ways space technologies completely changed life on earth.

A World Without NASA is a ticket to experience a joyride through innovation, bringing the far away concepts of space technology down to earth“ said Rob Burke, Head of Content for CuriosityStream. “At its heart, the series is a really fun journey giving us a peek at the unthinkable – how we’d live without so many of the cutting-edge technologies we often take for granted.”

‘We wanted to rocket into how NASA and the space race are critically relevant to everyone, regardless of interest in space or science or age,” said Daniel Oron, the series’ Executive Producer. “Forget the stars, wherever you are, whatever you do, you’re using NASA technology in your daily existence.”

‘The Pulse of Tech’ and ‘The Fires of Science,’ episodes 1 and 2, enter a world where innovations disappear in the blink of an eye. Then, follow the space race back to present day to learn what challenges and questions drove the development of the NASA technology. Experts trace the hardware under the hood, always uncovering roots in space tech.

On working with the team at CuriosityStream, Go Button Media’s Oron said, “CuriosityStream is an incredibly creative partner in that they truly thrive on originality and empower filmmakers to do the same. Right from the start, the back and forth of ideas was inspiring and exhilarating, leading to a final product that we are proud to share with CuriosityStream’s millions of subscribers.”

A World Without NASA premieres on CuriosityStream January 9, 2020. Both episodes will be available to stream any time. The series will air on documentary Channel February 19th at 10 pm ET.

A World Without Nasa was commissioned by Steve Burns for CuriosityStream. Executive Producer for CuriosityStream is Rob Burk. Executive producers for Go Button Media are Daniel Oron and Natasha Ryan. DCD Rights distributes the show internationally.

Fox News: Hitler’s secret Nazi war machine revealed in hidden bases

Experts are looking to unlock the sinister secrets of hidden Nazi bases dotted across Europe.

The covert sites will be explored in the new Science Channel series “Secret Nazi Ruins,” which premieres at 10 p.m. ET Thursday.

“To this day, the remains of Nazi Bases lie waiting to reveal their truth about Hitler’s tactics and dreams,” explained Science Channel, in a statement. Sites examined in the series include the Maisy Batteries, a huge group of artillery batteries built in Northern France by the German military. The site has been recently excavated and investigated with the help of newly revealed documents, according to Science Channel.

Other sites featured in the series include the vast base of Dag Bromberg, which is hidden in a Polish forest, and the V-2 rocket base Kraftwerk Nord West in France. Experts will also explore Bergkristal, a bunker and tunnel complex in Austria, which is described as possessing a “mysterious level of radiation.” An unusual mansion on a beach in the Canary Islands “with design elements that defy its stated residential purpose” will also be examined.

“It seems as though every year that passes since the events of WWII we discover new sites, new plots and new terrors the Nazi war machine was behind,” said Daniel Oron, the show’s executive producer, in a statement emailed to Fox News. “Secret Nazi Ruins’ aims to uncover the mysteries and buried plots through investigating the remnants of known and recently excavated Nazi projects.”

Exclusive: Science Channel searches for “Secret Nazi Ruins”

Discovery-owned Science Channel has set an early September debut for the investigative docuseries Secret Nazi Ruins from Toronto’s Go Button Media.

The series will seek to dig up mysteries from some of the most covert of Adolf Hitler’s World War II projects, as experts dissect and reveal the purpose and technical design behind each shadowy structure – from tunnels to towers, artillery sites, resistance nests and communication centers.

Among the various sites examined throughout Secret Nazi Ruins are the recently excavated Maisy Batteries, a large group of artillery batteries constructed by the Nazis; Dag Bromberg, a Polish base hidden in a forest; Bergkristal, a bunker and network of tunnels in the heart of Austria with mysterious levels of radiation; a peculiar mansion on a remote beach in the Canary Islands; and Kraftwerk Nord West in northern France, one of the largest Nazi bunkers ever constructed.

Go Button’s Daniel Oron and Natasha Ryan are executive producers alongside Science Channel’s Neil Laird.

Secret Nazi Ruins premieres Sept. 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Science Channel.
